About Acura
Acura is the luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Honda. The brand began operations in the United States on March 27, 1986, with 60 dealers in 18 states. Acura calls itself the first Japanese luxury brand in the United States.12
The brand started with two model lines. These were the Legend luxury sedan and the Integra. In 1987, Toyota and Nissan announced plans to start their own luxury divisions.12
The NSX went on sale in August 1990 as a 1991 model. Honda describes its aluminum monocoque body as the first mass-produced aluminum monocoque body for a production vehicle.23
Acura also races in North America. The Comptech Racing Acura-Spice GTP Lights car used a modified NSX engine. It won three manufacturers’ and three drivers’ championships in the IMSA Camel GTP Lights series from 1991 to 1993.4
