About BYD
BYD Auto is a Chinese car maker. It was established in 2003 as a subsidiary of BYD Company, which began as a battery maker. BYD Auto entered the car industry by acquiring Xi’an Qinchuan Automobile. The company is based in Shenzhen, with operations in Xi’an.12
BYD models include the Seal, the Dolphin, the Tang and the Qin. BYD also builds the Denza, Yangwang and Fangchengbao brands.23
BYD makes its own Blade battery, a lithium iron phosphate design. The e-Platform 3.0 is its platform for battery electric cars. Its DM series is a family of plug-in hybrid systems.245
In 2025, BYD delivered 4.6 million electric cars and plug-in hybrids. Its battery electric sales of about 2.26 million cars were higher than those of Tesla.6
