About MG Rover
MG Rover Group was a British car maker. The Phoenix Consortium bought it from BMW in 2000 for 10 pounds. John Towers, a former Rover chief executive, led the consortium. MG Rover was the last volume car maker in the United Kingdom.123
MG Rover and its engine business, Powertrain, went into administration on April 8, 2005. Talks about a deal with the Chinese maker SAIC had failed. The two businesses employed about 6,100 people. Car production at the Longbridge plant ended in April 2005.23
Nanjing Automobile Group bought the last assets in 2005 for about 53 million pounds. SAIC later built the MG6 at Longbridge, and it went on sale in the United Kingdom in 2011.24
