About Daihatsu

Daihatsu is a Japanese car maker with headquarters in Ikeda, Osaka. The company gives March 1, 1907, as its founding date and changed its name to Daihatsu Kogyo in December 1951. Toyota Motor Corporation made Daihatsu a wholly owned subsidiary through a share exchange in August 2016.1

The lineup includes the Copen roadster, the Mira e:S, the Tanto and Move kei cars, the Hijet commercial vehicles and the Rocky crossover. Daihatsu has manufacturing companies in Indonesia, where it works with PT Astra Daihatsu Motor, and in Malaysia, where it works with Perodua.1

In December 2023, Daihatsu admitted that it had manipulated safety tests on 64 models for three decades. Of these 64 models, 24 were sold with Toyota branding.2
