About Maybach

Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl began to build airship engines for Ferdinand Graf Zeppelin in 1908. In 1909, they founded the Motorenbau company as a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin. The company later built rail cars and luxury automobiles.12

Between 1921 and 1940, Maybach built about 1,800 cars. The factory was bombed in World War II, and the company never restarted car production after the war.2

Daimler-Benz acquired the company in 1960. Maybach returned in 2002 as an ultra-luxury brand with the 57 and 62 models. Production stopped in 2012 because of poor sales.2

Mercedes-Benz revived the name as a sub-brand in 2015. Mercedes-Maybach offers luxury versions of the S-Class, the GLS and the EQS SUV. Daimler sold a record 12,000 Maybach vehicles in 2019, and China was the most popular market.234

European petrol cars have used EOBD since model year 2001.5
