About Vauxhall/Opel
Opel is a German automaker. Adam Opel founded it on January 21, 1862, in Rüsselsheim. The company made sewing machines first, then bicycles from 1886 and cars from 1899. Vauxhall is the name used for Opel vehicles in the United Kingdom.12
General Motors acquired 80 percent of the shares of Adam Opel AG in 1929 and became the majority stockholder. The PSA Group bought Opel in March 2017. Opel became part of Stellantis on January 16, 2021.12
Popular models include the Corsa, the Astra, the Insignia and the Mokka. In July 2021, Opel announced that it would sell only electric cars in its core European market by 2028.2
European Directive 98/69/EC requires an on-board diagnostic system on new petrol cars from 2001 and on diesel cars from 2004.3
